On August 19, 2024, at 8:26 p.m. Rome time, there will be a full moon in Aquarius. It will be a special one: the first supermoon of the year.
It’s a rare phenomenon that will be visible from Sunday morning to Wednesday morning, offering three days of lunar brilliance, according to NASA.
The next such event is expected in January and March 2037.
Use binoculars or a telescope: although the supermoon will be perfectly visible to the naked eye, optical aids will enable you to see details of the lunar surface.
What does it mean from an astrological point of view?
A supermoon is a phenomenon that occurs when the full moon occurs at the moment of maximum or near-maximum approach of the Moon to the Earth (within 90% in a given orbit), known as perigee. At such times, our satellite appears much larger and brighter than usual.
The term “supermoon” was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979.
This moon is also known as the “blue moon”.
Interestingly, the name “Blue Moon” has nothing to do with the color change of Earth’s satellite, but a surprising optical illusion can sometimes be observed: if there are small particles of smoke or ash in the air, they scatter the red waves, and the Moon can then actually take on a bluish hue.
The first known use of “Blue Moon” in English dates back to 1528. Since the 1940s, the term “Blue Moon” has also referred to the second full moon in a month. This phenomenon generally occurs every two or three years.
The full moon is often associated with heightened emotional sensitivity. Everyone shows what they’re made of…..
Despite the energetic fluctuations inherent in every Full Moon, it’s most important this time to consider Mercury retrograde, which from Virgo “returns” to Leo and prolongs the royal influence of this constellation for another 10 days.
This period is dangerous because of sudden changes in plans and circumstances… The retrograde period confuses our thoughts, stifles intuition, provokes excessive nostalgia….
A minor quarrel, a careless remark can lead to the loss of a relationship or the ruin of a career.
Fortunately, this year’s Full Moon is in lively, creative Aquarius… While Mercury burns into the Sun, robbing us of our rationality, Aquarius’ intellectual influence gives an extra boost to creativity and the urge to experiment.
You should not let the sudden ideas that come to you slip through your fingers, but you should not make any hasty decisions either. It is better to note down all the flashes of inspiration and consider them later: perhaps there will be something really meaningful and useful among them.
The constellation Leo, where Mercury retrograde now flees, is a symbol of power and high social status, since defeating the Nemean Lion was Heracles’ first task. The lion is a strong beast, but it also has its occasional misadventures: a lion was strangled by Hercules and its own claws were used to peel off its skin. So “The king is allowed” is a motto that can always backfire...
Yet, August 19 offers good prospects when you can fulfill any desire and persistence. The important thing is not to put your hands down, to be open and communicative.
In the third decade of August you may see new opportunities or solutions that you had not noticed before.
Aug. 28 Mercury is stationary with a turn toward direct motion. This is a challenging day because there is inhibition in everything: flight delays, payment errors, order cancellations. Traffic jams and hours-long queues may occur at border crossings, and there are inconsistencies in documents, due to which things have to be put off.
The most productive period will begin on 29 August, when Mercury will enter direct motion, but will fully assert itself and proceed with confidence after 12 September. On this day Mercury will emerge from its ring in Virgo, bringing greater predictability and transparency in various systems. Doubts will be dispelled, new tools and ways to transform and simplify daily life will emerge. Don’t give up and be like a Lion!
