Today is my birthday, and I want to tell you about my favorite plant, the magnolia.

The name “magnolia” was given to this ornamental plant by Carl Linné in honor of the director of the Montpellier botanical garden, P. Magnol.

In July, when the large-flowered magnolia reaches its peak, it becomes the queen of photo reports, its magical blooms flooding social networks and Instagram. It’s one of the first flowering plants on our planet, dating back over a hundred million years.

Before the Ice Age, magnolia was also widespread in mid-latitude forests. As bees were not yet present, the flowers of these plants are adapted to pollination by beetles: the fruit stalks are strong enough not to be damaged or eaten.

To me, magnolias are the true knights of the floral world, but the famous researcher C. Lewis, a magnolia specialist, called them the “aristocrats” of the floral world, because of their appearance so luxurious and delicate, even ethereal …

Immense magnolia flowers reach 30 centimetres in diameter and have a spicy, intoxicating aroma with citrus notes.

Precious essential oils are extracted from the leaves, flowers and young branches of magnolia trees. And in hot weather, the trees spray it in such quantities that it’s worth taking a lit match to them, as a violet flame ignites…

Magnolia liquid extract reduces blood pressure (persistent and long-lasting), palpitations and pain in the heart area. However, the mere presence of this extraordinary tree is curative.

A fragrance with notes of magnolia increases self-confidence and attractiveness to others:Nasomatto – Pardon.Chloe – Magnolia Alba.Trussardi – Sound Of Donna.Derek Lam 10 Crosby – Looking Glass.Bvlgari – Splendia.Jo Malone – Rose & Magnolia.Hugo Boss – Boss Alive Eau De Toilette.Caron – Lady Caron.

The Japanese even eat magnolia buds! The flowers have a pleasantly sweet flavor and an ineffable aroma with a touch of vanilla and hints of lemon-ginger.

There’s a belief that if a single woman sees a magnolia tree in bloom, she’ll soon change her status. Her marriage will be successful and happy. Since the hearts of young virgins will help her, patronize the luminous feelings of love. To do this, read the marriage conspiracy: “Magnolia, help, find a husband. Live with him in love. Give me joy and family happiness!” And for those who are already married, magnolia flowers help preserve love in marriage, not losing feelings over the years.

It wasn’t until the late 17th or early 18th century that the first magnolia was imported to Europe from America. When Europeans first encountered them, their delight was indescribable. Magnolia fever” began, similar to “tulip fever” in Holland. Gardeners began to steal each other’s flowering trees and smuggle them to Holland in exchange for tulip bulbs.

The magnolia family comprises 230 species. Among them is the “sacred ear flower” of the Aztecs, whose thick, fleshy petals with curled edges resemble a human ear. Then there’s the famous ylang-ylang, the “flower that floats”.

This year, you can see the miraculous flowers today, but you should also visit the “Dinosaurs in the Crimea” exhibition at the NBS Science Museum.
